A film I did for my Border Crossings class. It follows around a Brooklyn teen as he explores the different neighborhoods of New York City, and sees how immigration has affected them. The short film follows a Bengali teen as he explores the different neighborhoods of New York City, seeing how immigration has affected the culture of that neighborhood. He ventures from his ethnically Bengali neighborhood, and explores the Caribbean neighborhood of Kensington, the Russian neighborhood of Brighton Beach, the Chasidic Jewish neighborhood of Borough Park, the Mexican and hispanic neighborhood of Sunset Park, and of course the famous Chinatown and Little Italy. He comes home later that night to a wonderful Eid dinner, elements of his own culture that his family has brought to New York City.
What a wonderful view of New York done with care and love. You've shown the true essence of a New Yorker's life in an a culturally amalgamated state. Next time exclude jumping the trains ;-) I hope all involved will continue this theme; Philadelphia next?
