This is the making of one of the best computer games of all time.
This game was made in 1993 and is the first (and in my opinion the best) in the trilogy.
The video has been taken from the CD version.
There's a bit of a sound/video synchronization issue that wasn't there prior to uploading.

  • I'm writing subs, 99% ready, can you help me figure out the rest?

I'm posting the first part, every contributor will be credited.

3:20 Jane: and we get letters and peoples saying they think that the game assumes too much... that assumes that they wanna pick up something when they click their hand on wjhjhd??? when trying to open it...so i wanted to try to keep the point and click and the icons in a visual ???synthethic?? words, and introduce a little bit more freedom about actions.

  • 4 months on from my post, and boy, am I fucking stuck.

I refuse to look at walkthroughs, but I am going insane. I have got one point in about 10 playthroughs, can't see where I can go.

    Fiendishly difficult!

  • yeah, there are basically 2 points which most people require help on. The most famous one is that you need to collect clay from the beach at the crime scene. There really aren't any in-game hints to help you with that one. Pretty much just involves you using the 'look' icon and clicking on the beach, to which Gabriel responds with "hey.. is that clay?"

  • As far as I know, this making of was only available on the GK CD, and this is the original quality of that file. Remember that this was one of the first games to come out on CD. :)

  • Jane Jensen is genius.

  • They should remake it, even keeping all the raw components, just digitizing artwork & music in higher resolution, and improving game mechanics. Many old DOS games would benefit this way.

  • i do like story driven first person shooter games but this is where it all began for me, its still my fave genre to this day, so glad its made a return in the likes black mirror 2 and such.

LUV IT all cozy....cup of coffee on the side.... Cigarette in hand the mystery awaits lol

  • Busy playing this now for the second time, never finished it 15 years ago. Thanks for the amazing vid!

  • Thank you for uploading this. It's really inspiring for a wannabe game developer like me!

  • ...one of the best ever written in my opinion.so captivating, mysterious, involving frightening and emotional moments at parts-and a lot of houmor ofcourse! and, also, i want to refer to something NOBODY mentions.after that crap 'code da vinci' book had so mush success it seemed i was the only who found the whole relegious background story of it stolen from the game!!or at least the story was mentioned first in the game.the only thing i didnt like was the boring showdown in the end and thesadending

  • I am currently playing GK 1 and i like it.I will make a judjement after i finish it..I dont understand why so much hate for the GK3 though?it is one of my most favourite games of all time!It is the only game i finished 2 times in a row.The music is again a masterpiece, the characters really interesting, the mystery intriguing, the camera was AMAZING!nobody recognizes this unfortunately!I have never seen more freedom with the camera system in another adventure game!!and the story...

  • Back in the day I was subscribed to a Sierra Online seasonal publication. It was basically just advertizing Sierra games that were coming out, but I was too young to notice and I loved it! I bought so many awesome Sierra games just out of the fly.

Sierra was probably my favourite company in the 90s, it was special.

  • I totally agree with her in thepower of video games as an entertainment medium to rival any other. I also like that she put her game design where her mouth was on that with GK

  • They don't make games like these anymore.

  • @Stubby1085 agreed GK had a soul of is own a fantastic story theres something very special about that era for adventure games, be sure to look out for a game called Grey matter its jane jensons new project coming in 2011 and she hasnt done a game since gabrial knight 3 so lets hope she can bring back some of that magic, shes also says she would love to do a GK4 and already has 2 diffrent storys for it when the rights to the games are sorted out

  • @HardWarUK ok for a start how does age define which old school point and click adventure game i prefer? this is just nonsence i take it your just Trollin
