Actually they can, and it happens often. Curlin, who raced just last year, won over $10mil.

Heck, the Dubai World Cup is $6mil. Will be increased to $10mil next year. So if you win just that race alone you will break $3mil

Seattle Slew was an outstanding horse, great racer but an even better Sire. Considering that he won the Triple Crown thats sayin something.

@jersey166 I never doubted Slew's greatness, but Sec has "gone faster" than him over various distances, and most of Sec's wins were done with ease. Let's take the Marlboro Cup at 1 1/8. Sec was only 3, and he beat six older champs in that race (G1 winners with multiple awards), easily setting the WR under a hand ride. Slew was a year older in the MC, and under the whip in the stretch, still clocked 0.4 slower than the younger Secretariat. Sec's Belmont was over 4 seconds faster.

@rcschumann that is right..conditions at the Derby and the Belmont were not favorable..if you look at most races of seattle slew..he was held back while he was laying waste the the horses he raced against...you think in the jockey club gold cup or the flamingo stakes Secretariat would have gone faster than 109 flat..faster than slew.gimme a bread...Seattle Slew could run as fast as any other horse

With a Stallion the insurance increase has more to do with his value as a Stallion then his Racing Winnings. Storm Cat stood Stud at $500,000.00 per breeding covering anywhere from 100 to 130 Mares per year. Add in it was either Northern Dancer or Raise a Native that stood Stud for a $1,000,000.00 Stud Fee no live Foal Guarantee, you wanted that his Fee was $1,500,000.00. So they can earn a Ton.
