I have heard stories about this recording. Zakir was ok up until the moment of recording and then developed cold feet and he was very nervous. Mani Iyer, since doesnt speak hindi or english said something to him in Tamil. Zakir asked for translation. Mani Iyer's son translated as follows "Don't worry. You play well. You play what you know and I will play what I know". Zakir started shivering even more saying that my very fear is that if you play what you know, I dont stand a chance. Humble!!!!

Wonderful demonstration of 2 of the finest drums from the North and South. I think none of us understand the depth of their performance. Only they and other experts know exactly what they were doing.

Yes! That is one of the great aspects of South Indian percussion ensemble. The way they combine at the end. Listen to some of my other uploads.

Wow Ustadji sounds amazing, just hear the way he plays in Adlaya! The Pandit also sounds great. Wish there were more of these!

That is not a Pandit. He is known as Vidwan. Carnatic musicians dont use that term 'pandit'
