Yes and no, the best we could do back then was 5 or 6 thousand MPH, needed at least 17 thousand to get to orbit and 25 thousand to travel to the moon, but imagine if all the money and research for the war was put into that instead of getting a ton of explosives a few hundred miles.
The Germans were right. A high energy liquid fuel rocket was key to space travel.

Oh, God, why didn't we build ships like these in the '30s? We had the technology (or most of it, anyway).... :-(
