David Cook visiting with cancer survivors at the 12th Annual Race for Hope for brain cancer research in Washington DC on May 3, 2009. He was amazing. He ran the whole thing in 28 minutes. I caught some video of him visiting with the cancer survivors and their families, leading the survivors at the start line and running.

I have his whole speech on video but we've all seen it plus I didn't want to focus on that. My main goal was to capture his selflessness and his courage. And to show what a great event it is for EVERYONE. 2 million total raised? INCREDIBLE.

His team raised over $100,000! I am so proud to have been a part of it. Even if we did get REALLY SOAKED. :)

Must have been very hard for him to be there the day after he lost his brother Adam to a brain tumor. He put on a brave face and was still a huge inspiration to others.

Thanks to CS for wording help...:)

  • He actually said "how many people want to bathe David Cook?" after David said he hadn't showered...lol. There were lots of hands up, for the record!

  • I am a brain tumor survivor and was at the race. Actually, my daughter in her teal blue sweater is the very first shot of the video. We are also 1:20 in, for a while-I have short black hair and a backpack. I cried watching this because it was so personal and intimate to meet him, and then to have him tell me when I asked that his brother had died the day before. All of us were his support just as he was ours, and the emotion that connection brought to the event was profound. Thanks for posting.

  • Jeez, I responded to your comment like a week ago but I guess it didn't go through! Congratulations for beating this terrible disease. And thank you for supporting David that day. It was so coincidental that Adam's death happened the night before, but maybe it was meant to be that way...so that he could be with people who understand what his family is going through.

Anyway I was happy to attend and help out and I hope to be coming every year!

  • Thanks for sharing this! I love how, in the video, David stands up at the moment when he's singing "You're still standing"...amazing that he was able to stand up and be there for so many, in the face of his fresh loss. I hope he felt the love from all of us there for him as well. Who needs Super Heroes when we've got David Cook?!

  • Wow, I didn't even notice that I did that! Cool! lol

  • Thanks so much for posting this. He's an amazing human being, and it was an amazing and inspirational day. I walked in the race for Team Cook with young son who came home saying "I want to help people, like David Cook." He really was a hero on Sunday.

  • He is just simply the most amazing man. How can you NOT love him ~

  • I'm going to be in the Race tomorrow for the second time. Last year was so tough for David, and for all of us as his fans and supporters. Let's make sure we help enough to make it so that no one else needs to go through this terrible disease. Donate to the Race for Hope.

  • He is truly amazing. There will never be another David Cook. Love him.

  • jumpneg, thanks for this uplifting vid. and marabayewitz, congrats on beating the beast. good for you! i think your comment was very insightful and i am sure that it was a great comfort to DC to be with all of you on this emotional day. I agree with jumpneg: maybe it was all meant to be. looking forward to running with all the participants this year on 5/2.

  • David Cook set the bar too high...it will be really hard to find another rock star/musician like him. It will take more than a pretty face, a gorgeous voice to win me over...a huge kind honest heart is the new standard =)

  • DAVID IS UNIQUE : UNIQUE.

singular, rare, exclusive, unmatached, sui generis, special, unreal, unrivaled, utmost, unequalable, unimaginable, unthinkable, distinguishing, essencial, emblematic, extraordinary, marvellous, mysterious, remarkable, wonderful, phenomenal, supreme, notable, outstanding, surpassing....

  • David Cook is so unbelievably strong by being here for so many people who are also affected by this horrible disease. I was a fan long before I knew about Adam, but I have gained a new respect for someone I already respected. David is an inspiration to others fighting cancer and maybe even other illnesses that take the same toll as cancer. God bless David and may Adam rest in peace now. No pain to live with every day, and for David, it's no shame to let someone see you cry. You are so awesome!

  • It is very sad, and he was so brave to be there.. It was the day after his brother died that he ran this race.
