After 9 hours of editing, 3-4 hours animation, and too many hours filming and storyboarding, here's the finished product! This is a film i did for an assessment at school, where we had to do a creative representation of the text studied that term, my class did the matrix triology, so heres my representation!
EXPLANATION:
There are 3 characters in the film that I have chosen to represent a theme or character in The Matrix Film. All 3 of these are identical clones of Neo to represent that the key to defeating the Agents and the Machines is unleashing his mind, thus defeating himself or rather his own mind
-The main character represents Neo, dressed in a black tie and suit, such attire assumed by someone controlled in the matrix.
-The second character, is the representation of the Agents, dressed in a red tie and suit, which the harshness of the red represents the Agent's evil intentions. The scenes before Neo is 'unplugged' into the matrix the Agent is blindfolded as Neo isn't able to yet 'see' of 'recognise' his nemesis until he is able to come into the real world. There are in some scenes multiple clones of the Agents which indicates that they don't have any personalities like robots, they all look and act the same. To create an artificial element to this character, near the end of the film the character's clones flicker in much the same fashion to that of a computer error.
-The third character is the character dressed as Neo though he has a mask of a zero with a line through it. This character is used to represent Neo's fate and ultimate aim to eliminate the zero, or rather his opposing value in binary (which I will explain later), yet Neo is unaware of whether that is his fate until it is revealed when the mask is taken away and his face is behind before he is 'unplugged', thus re-assuring him that he is the chosen One.
In my fascination with The Matrix's form of symbolism, I chose to also re-invent some new forms of symbolism to represent characters from the original film. Such as the meaning of the character 'Cypher' in the matrix is the mathematical symbol for zero. Neo is depicted throughout The Matrix as the chosen One, which is also an anagram for his name. Together Cypher being (0) and Neo being (1) they are the two digits used in the computer language 'binary'. Like binary the two characters are 'opposing values', yet without one of them the world wouldn't work.
I used this symbolism of binary in the scenes where the camera is zoomed into Neo's head where a representation of his mind takes place. On the floor and desk binary is laid out to represent such opposing values but also his fate. Another piece of symbolism I used with Cypher's digit of (0) was the number '303' on the desk. This number when the (0) is taken away equals Jesus' age of 33 when he died, yet another representation for Neo's fate which is paralleled to that of Jesus Christ as the saviour figure. But also #303 is the number of the room where The Matrix film begins, which in my film indicates the beginning of Neo's fate starts with his head, where the #303 is a representation of his mind. In the concluding sequence, Neo is shown overthrowing the table, thus representing that Neo has defeated his own mind.
The #303 scene representing Neo's mind is incredibly important as it shows the Agents standing on the two sides of Neo showing hostility, but also representing that while he is 'plugged' into the matrix he is overseen by the Agents. The use of lighting is also important is it represents a situation much the same to an interrogation room, where Neo is isolated and treated as if he is a criminal.
At the beginning of the film a scene is shot in a completely white room, where Neo and his clone nemesis is blindfolded and stand facing each other as the clone gives Neo a choice between a blue pill (to back out of what is about to happen) and a red pill (to proceed to what the matrix will be like being unplugged). The white room was used to indicate the characters were in 'nothingness' that they were in neither the matrix nor the real world.
Near the conclusion of the film, it cuts back to the original scene with the pills however both the pills are red. This indicates that Neo never had a choice between both pills as fate had decided his future already.
