Visit to Crossness Sewage Pumping Station during Open House London 2008. This is a restored pumping station originally built in the 19th century. Only one of the four engines operates.

  • pardon the expression but WTF !!!!! do i take it you have to wear helmets when you go into this place !!!, sad....really sad H n S gone mad !..... i could just imagine setting up for a photo shoot looking over the edge and bye bye elmit !.....

  • @moomoomooism Well the upper floor is an open mesh style, so folks above can drop stuff through the floor onto the folks below. There are also a few low nut-cracking beams, so head protection in this case makes sense.

  • @moomoomooism So,.. you got caught out being a "dick" , FFS get over it. My formal training costs would probably have paid many years worth of your wages.

I have no doubt that there are some pretty skillful knowledgeable cavers out there, but I have little doubt you're one of those who would get lost in his own lunchbox judging by your twaddle.

  • @moomoomooism Listen you idiot, I'm not a hobbyist nor do I have hobbyists interests, my job WAS underground safety including PPE and OH& S for the over 15 years.

Try telling your bullsh!t to MSA or any of a dozen PPE manufacturers they have stringent Government guidelines developed as a result of tests done, and on an ongoing basis. All batches of equipment must have destructive tests done and the results available to inspectors.

    Cavers,... Jeez,..uz, H. Christ. LOL

  • @ozzirt don't make the mistake of thinking your the only one on ere who does underground rescue (CRO), if you wanna talk helmets goto derbyshire Caving shop (UK) we test to distruction...bloody third world do your self a favour n stop trying to belittle people.....oh and we were not on about in mining/caving situations either....nuff said.....

  • @ozzirt ...hell can you not read !.....i stated...." in the museum main concern is people looking over from floors above and helmet falling off hitting people below as they have no chin strap etc !" the part before is an example ONLY......think you need to go back to school lmfao oh and its not about "justify your own self importance" it was about is it a requirement in the museum...bloody fool getting into other peoples chat which does not concern you makes you a bloody idiot who knows nothing

  • @moomoomooism And where on this site is anyone going to drop a podger on these visitors? These hemets are not bullet proof either, are you going to whinge about that? Y'never know, a serial killer might just go postal on an open day,..... You are an idiot just trying to display your alleged "superior " knowledge, using stupid examples to justify your own self importance.

Wake up and join the real world.

  • @moomoomooism Having been an underground miner and Rescue team member for 43 years I do understand probably a lot better than yourself, unless of course your country has third world safety specifications for PPE.

I've seen helmets that have been subjected to all manner of blows both in person and at safety displays, and in no case was the wearer ever killed as a result of penetration of the shell. Several were crushed but the helmet wouldnt have saved them any way.

  • @moomoomooism

a bloke on a building site using a bodging spanner droppes it, hits a white helmet the sharp end will go through and kill a bloke with this type of helmet !.....not like the higher greded helmet i use, in the museum main concern is people looking over from floors above and helmet falling off hitting people below as they have no chin strap etc !...as i said if you dont know what your talking about best not to say owt..poor knowledge is just as bad as no knowledge !

  • @ozzirt

first your question quote.....What are you, a bloody "helmet snob"? .....NO just a person who understands a build up af a helmet in greater detail than you.....if you dont know what your talking about either read and learn or listen to people who know what there on about......

As you point out... " standard issue helmets similar to those used by 90% of workers" actually they are the same, shame people wearing a helmet think there protected ! prime example of FAIL..read next reply

  • @moomoomooism What are you, a bloody "helmet snob"?

Those are standard issue helmets similar to those used by 90% of workers in just about any workplace requiring them anywhere in the world. Anything that will penetrate one of those helmets would have probably killed the wearer anyway, helmet or not.

  • @Emilygoose

although i can understand dropping stuff from higher floors and low beams...is it a requirement to wear such a crap helmet ! (sorry i do caving and potholing and those white helmets will stop very little in all honesty m8).....if the answer is yes then its a shame but i will give this place a wide birth......good as it is though, love places of this type at the mo i am working in the engine house on ellenroad at j21 on the m62 3000 hp steam engine with a 28foot diameter wheel
