VIDEO DETAILS:
Did you know that Matt Helders supposedly took up drums because all the other instruments in the band were taken? I'm not sure if it's true but if it is then doesn't that just make you sick? That such a reluctant drummer can be so good?!

The Intro Drum Fill that occurs right at the beginning of the song Teddy Picker by the Arctic Monkeys is yet another example of Matt's musical and well thought out drumming.

This drum fill gets played again later in the song showing that Matt Helders really did craft this drum fill precisely.

DRUMS & GEAR:
Yamaha DTXPress Special IV electronic drum kit
Vater 5b Sticks (for this video at least)
Pearl Eliminator Double Pedals
Canon HF100 HD Camera
Sony Vegas 9 (for all rendering)
Quality Free Trade Coffee (LOTS!)

  • I was sure the intro was s s ht s ht. s s ft s ft s s s. With bass on every note except last three hits on the snare...?

  • @lemony2j Nope, sorry :)

  • You talk allot.

  • @alfredoheras This is a drum lesson mate, it's not a drum solo.

  • @AndywinXp Cheers mate! Hmmm, I can't explain the live thing. All I know is that the toms move up in pitch on the actual recording. We both know though that at the end of the day the tom order isn't what's important...it's the groove baby! :)

  • cool videos, really usefull, but you should increase the volume of the base drum a little bit ;)

  • Excelente! from argentina ;)

  • @DrumsTheWord In that case don't watch my '100% accurate' cover of it!

    Great videos keep em coming

  • @DrumsTheWord Well this is a revelation on a monday morning!! Thanks mate

  • @DrumsTheWord He is an audience , not a performer...lol

  • this guy always looks high

  • Please make a tutorial of Cassius - Foals ):

  • @mutedmathamatician well i feel like an idiot now. I saw in the intro you played 8 instead of 6 so i assumed you just thought it was 8. Then i watched the rest and realized you knew it was 6. lol

  • I listened to that intro snippet on the actual song like a 100 times just now. It sounds like matt plays 6 eighth notes on the bass drum then plays the rest of the fill. I'm like 99.9% sure it's 6. haha but this is a great video. Cheers and keep up the great work! :D

  • thank very much rob i was looking for this it will be great more arctic monkeys lesson

  • Tja K's for taking the song up for me! Good work!

  • @DrumsTheWord Well that's the only thing that sounds wrong to me, (also by looking live performances I still think you switched the toms), but the rest is perfect, even the bass drum; man, almost EVERYONE gets that bass drum wrong :P

Awesome video, keep on rocking :)

  • @AndywinXp That's what I thought too but don't watch the video to work out the tom order, listen to the song itself. I had to isolate the drums to hear clearly whether the tom tones went up in pitch or down and they went up. It is floor tom first and then high tom. Thanks for your observation though, very keen! :)

  • Looks like you switched the toms order in the intro fill

  • @FrancyMuse94 Thank you! I think your English is very good. My Italian is very bad...erm, actually I can't speak any Italian at all! :)

  • Oh! I love Arctic Monkeys :D And I love your lessons ^^

But sometimes I do not understand what you say because I'm Italian xD Hahaha xD

  • @thecitizenme Sure, OK then, this lesson is just for YOU! ;)

  • BIAHAHAHAHA! finally, my long waited lesson! :D

  • @TheHolyPig Funny you should say that...watch this space :)

  • @JackArctic More Arctic Monkeys stuff to come very soon! Watch this space...not literally, this is just a comment box :D
