this music made me think anything was possible as a kid. good times

I remember watching this show as a kid and my mother throwing a fit over the darker ambiance and at times rather disturbing content.
I didn't know the opening I grew up watching wasn't the original though, this is really cool thanks for posting it!

I loved this show as a kid. A lot of the stuff my little cousins watch now isn't as adventurous or imagination-inspiring like this was.

nice hi the from the 87s

This was some of the most awesome fantasy/adventure music I've heard for any cartoon, both back then AND now.
It just radiates this sense of magic, wonder and epicness.

Also it's not really a rare cartoon. Just see it on Amazon

La tourbiloun isn't the original name. The original name is Pirates of dark water. Then it was exported to France and changed the name to a French language name. You have yet to post the REAL original opening. To find it simply find a person who's got there VHS tape recorded with one of the first few episodes released in the US. Remember it must be one of the first few episodes aired, as later episodes also had a different opening. But this shouldn't be hard to find a person with recorded VHS.

The only cartoon who has a really serious plot from the beggining.... Why Turner WHY!??

where can I buy the dvds from as I never find any episodes from this show thanks
I think it was Turner's decision to make the show less serious when they bought Hanna Barbera Productions. Turner owned Hanna Barbera Productions from 1991 to 1996. Hanna Barbera Productions started working on the scripting process of this show since 1989. The show was called "Dark Water."

@konway87 Do you know if they did some "darker" episodes that got replaced with more friendly ones?If so,do you know where I can find them?

@0RobinHood1 First 5 episodes have a serious tone. And the rest has a lighter tone.

@konway87 As I recall, the show was originally a mini-series called Dark Water. It was 5 or 6 episodes long. It was successful enough to spawn an actual series, renamed Pirates of Dark Water. Not as good as the original, but still quite good.
Now I'm going completely from my memory as a kid, and I'm just wondering, does this sound right to you?
Anyway, this was one of the better cartoons of it's time, and I was very disappointed when it was canceled without any resolution.

@charlesajones77 Yes you are right. The show was called Darkwater. The first 5 episodes had a serious tone. After that, I think it was Turner's decision to make the show less serious. But later Episodes like A Drop of Darkness, The Dark Disciples, and The Ghost Pirates did have a serious tone. But not as much as the first 5 episodes.
