Now forgive me but I am a little bold - drinking a very good good Scotch - but Willy Fritsch was an average singer!! I am afraid I am judging by today's standards. Now Kurt Gerron went to the gas chambers and Fritsch prospered. I can toelrate Fritsch as he was not an ardent Nazi and like many others did not get sucked into the "machine" by Goebells, unlike Heesters.

I agree, jonjamg. But if you listen to today's actors forced to sing in a movie you will notice that they are not better than Willy Fritsch or his colleagues were in those days. Therefore they are actors, not singers. ;-)
Regarding the nazi thing - yes, he prospered but what else should he have done without speaking any foreign language. With Adi Holländer he even had a jewish secretary until 1937 so in his heart he didn't support the system.
