she decimated the lyrics, sorry. i like the cowboy junkies, but a cover tribute to a songwriter should leave the song intact

perfect !!!

Townes wrote the song for the Junkies when he toured with them. The Junkies wrote Towne's Blues for him.

ah, cool man.

He wrote that song for them.

One of the best voices in the business.

ya know i always wondered id the cowboy junkies took their name from Van Zandts Cowboy Junkies Lament. also anyone that liked this, should get Steve Earle's album Townes. in Earle's own words, "he taught me every thing i know, good and Bad.

Listening to Townes' lyrics can be an epiphany moment. Seeing the Cowboy Junkies is almost always a mind/heart epiphany. Somehow the 'flowery' in Margo's singing always makes the creepy lyrics and sounds of Michael's songs gorgeous. Clearly from interviews with both - the Junkies and Townes blessed each other's worlds and became great admirers. The Junkies have done many gorgeous covers of great songwriters - dig a bit, it's worth it. I dare you to see Misguided Angel live and not choke up.

It's called Lungs.

What song is this?
Secondly, please keep in mind that Cowboy Junkies toured with Townes Van Zandt and became good friends with him. They wrote songs for each other. Since that tour, Cowboy Junkies have frequently mentioned his inspirational contribution to their work, and their appreciation for him and his friendship.
So in this video they are paying their respects to a friend who they greatly admired, not long after he suddenly, unexpectedly passed away.
