@Parrot175 The tube I think is a gas pressure regulator to control the CFL tube gas pressure when it is lit. Modern T5s achieve this by having one electrode abit longer into the tube than the other one so the uneveporated mercury condenses at the back of the longer electrode. As with this glass tube type it collects the excess mercury.

Hi next time in Ikea will have a little look and check their bulbs out, They may of got a cheaper source of these. Peter

@migette1 Yes I think this was made by Megaman. I don't think Ikea has Megaman as there supplier any more though.

I would break the outer glass envelope and remove ito clearly examine the Hg inside. Seems like too much Hg!
The outer envelope reduces light output.

i thought the mercury was stored in the tube, not it's own tube. How does it work?

@poiiihy The tube with the mercury is connected to the main tube but the mercury is too big to get through the hole into the main tube, so it stays there.

@poiiihy I really don't know but there is mercury vapor in the tube.
