This bike trailer was engineered and built for $1000 and is one of two. They were made to tour the Gibb River Road in North West Western Australia. I bought mine second hand from the couple and it was still in perfect condition even though the Gibb River Road is renown for being one of the roughest in Australia; most (non-4WD) cars would be shattered to pieces by the corrugations.

I've put it up here to share the basic design - feel free to copy it or be inspired to make something entirely different.

  • seems very heavey.

  • @FixedByDoc It IS heavy. It was specifically designed that way for a specific road in Western Australia. It extends all the way from Derby to Kununurra I think and is known to have among the countrys deepest corrugations. It is designed to not rattle apart and also not bounce around like the lighter ones can do. I gave it to the local tip shop and look forward to getting myself a lighter one as this one does not serve my needs any more.

  • I decided to make a "new" one from recycled materials. It's much lighter!

  • Look out for this monster this Spring. I'm gonna crack it out and use it a lot more.

  • @KemoreJ Overkill for the Gibb River Road.

  • @KemoreJ cool. i have a bob yak i understand what you mean by the bouncy problem on extreem roads. but it is great on trail terrain and roads.

  • steel! the yak trailer is as tough as you want to get,I toured s.e.asia with one, had a "run in" with a fwd ute(small female big car syndrome, cannot see over the DASHBOARD!)fwd went of to the wreckers and it took four guys and myself bouncing on the front part to try and straighten everything out, healthy respect for that metal.

  • FAntastic video. thanks mate. great stuff.

  • alright!
