How can he be that proficient and pronounce it so badly?
-
awesome, I understood most of it :D couldn't make out some things, but still ^^
I wonder why they were laughing...
-
Wow, I would have spoken much slower because I would be searching for the right words and playing them in my brain before speaking.

Is it hard to go to school there? what are the requirements?

@sakuramiyakawa people around the world love to learn Japanese because it is a great Language, I love Japanese 私は日本語を学んでいます

@wasabiwild i re listened to it and i misunderstood it .cheers :). i thought he said かれは もうさっそく死んでいます
i think the first time they laughed was when he said 「父は60歳ですが、もう退職しています (it means "my father is 60 years old, but he's already retired", literally)」, and I guess this might be considered as a humor that he implied, because it could be interpreted as he mentioned "he's ONLY 60 years old, but ANYHOW, he's retired already", and that is clear by the fact that right after he said that, one of those students said "(that's) Too early!". This, in Japan, is what to be called as"
ツッコミ(tsukkomi)”.

Nah, it was in a formal setting and I was speaking in front of teachers as well as students. "Watashi" is not for females only. I used it correctly.
I said boku after the speech when I talked to the students individually or in small groups.
