March 28th, 2010 Photographs of the community who turned out to pay their respects to the memory of and the family of GySgt Robert Gilbert. GySgt Gilbert was mortally wounded in Afghanistan. Also photographs of the amazing veterans who rode their motorcycles in the rain to escort GySgt Gilbert's body to the memorial service. Local police and fire departments teamed together to escort from the airport and to the funeral home, then to Revere High School.
Too often some folks do not realize the task of the military, police departments, or fire departments until they personally need their services. Too many times men and women have died as Heroes, defending this great United States of America, crawling into a window to retrieve a child in a burning house, taking shots from a mad man as the person in uniform thinks not of him or herself, but took an oath to defend. It's the Soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press.
It's the Soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It's the Soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag.
