This is an improved quality version of the first Newton video I uploaded. Images from various explores of RAF Newton in Nottinghamshire. RAF Newton was used briefly as a bomber base and then as a flying training school during World War II. The station became the headquarters of No 12 Group, Fighter Command from 1946 until 1958, when Technical Training Command took over the station for electronic fitters courses. The station became the home of the RAF School of Education in1972, and also the RAF Police Training School in 1973. The base closed in 1996.

By the way what is the music you use on the vid?

  • the underground bunker is creepy

  • Thank you for posting this and the follow up....I can't tell you what it means to me to see these pictures! I was posted here from March 75 until May 76 and I remember it as a vibrant place, full of young people on the verge of their lives, training for one thing or another..I was 18/19 and the memories I created here have stayed with me all this time.....I'm so sorry it is now in such an eerie state....

  • great video....found it through mine, i visited this place the other day, it's very creepy, whats that room with childrens drawings all over it, i never found that

  • I was at Newton from '85 to '89 first as a underling in SOETS doing the TV thingy and then in ATC as a Comms Tech. The gym was outstanding. I ran the entertainments in the Fosse Club for a few years. Trenchard Close is now private housing as I discovered when i 'visited' in about 2003. Everything was open and I walked around having a kind of 'Mary Celeste' moment as if everyone had just 'popped out'. Phillcross: Was that 5 Hangar with the pointy things? Goldie: I have stills and video!

  • Course you can tell; it's all history now! Good whilst it lasted though -eh?
