Here's an idea for anyone with a small home studio but wants to get that great natural "Big Room" sound. this is basically a way to fake that with some technology. Easy 2 mic setup.
Record anything you want with this technique!
In this video I am using the Shure SM7b and a CAD E70

Does this sound better than using an artificial reverb effect like the ones from garageband?

It's a different kind of thing, but YES it sounds better... to me.

Great video! But it causes a question. I have a Line6 GX as my interface. Works great for plugging the guitar straight in. But, I have a 57 to mic the cab, and I have an adapter to run the mike into the GX. The problem is that I have to turn the amp almost wide open (100 watt Marshall) to get a decent signal. I've checked all the internal stuff in GB (upped the gain on the compressor) to no avail. Is the problem the adapter going into an interface that isn't designed for a mic?

The Line6 GX is designed for guitar signals not mics. That is why you aren't getting enough signal!
You need a proper interface if you want to plug mics in.

Hi Lewin I'm a guitarist I record metal and hard rock. I have some great external distortion and harmonizer pedals. How can I import a clean signal DI into my daw using my external effects. Many thanks.

My advice for you to is to just record your amp for the best tone, but for a direct line in that will be effected you'llwant a D.I box.But again I do not recommend you go that route for tonal reasons.

how loud do you set your amp? How far away from the amp are you when recording? Does it matter?

Great video, I bet it would give even more reverb by compressing the room mic.

I really appreciate your great videos! You're using a "real world" space! btw I've got a Marshall Class 5 head, and I am considering pairing it with a Randall 1-12 IsoCab with a V30 (so I can crank it). Have you tried any isocabs? I am hoping I can also use it for an organ and maybe even some bass guitar
