The finger joints of the right hand should be in a slightly flexed from mid range position to execute the free stroke in order that the finger may make it's natural follow through. This angle must remain consistant as you move from string to string. This is extremely difficult for a beginner to do while trying to read music and use the left hand. That is why I recommned that the right hand be learned separately from the left hand for the first month or so of playing.
