Bryn Athyn Pennsylvania -- Jonathan Riles a senior at the Academy of the New Church and son of Alfred and Kathy Riles announced on April 13th, 2011, that he will take his academic and basketball skills to The University of Tampa, a member of the Sunshine State Conference. The Tampa Spartans are an NCAA Division II University who finished fourth this year in their conference with an overall record of 22 and 7. Jonathan, a three year starter for Kevin Givens handled the ball scoring 7 points per game this past season. Under his leadership the Lions won a Friends Schools League Championship in 2009 and helped them reach the finals his other two years. Jon also was a big part of a win over the nations #1 team, Findley Prep earlier this season. ANC's Head Coach Kevin Givens said, "Jonathan Riles has a huge up side as point guard and has a great opportunity to work his way into The University of Tampa's starting line up as a freshman."
Shawn Synnestvedt, ANC's Athletic Director added, "I'm very happy for Jonathan and his family. He has worked hard to get to this point. A foundation has been laid for him at ANC to realize a lot of success at the University of Tampa."
Jonathan signed his National letter of Intent during a ceremony at ANC Wednesday. He is looking to enroll in the Sports Management Program when he lands on the UT campus this fall.
