Ian Genonius!!

Thanks for expressing the point to which I couldn't find the right words for myself!! I completely agree with you. People think that Svenonius is ignorant...but the thing is he sets an interview up very well so that the interviewee has some sort of context to respond to...So that the person he is interviewing can gives us their own unique insight into how they approach culture! I hate people ascribing the word 'genius' to people as they rarely deserve it..But Ian is part of this rare species!

Yeah, I don't know. I still wonder if Ian is a total fake or what? I mean, the guy seems smart enough (making casual references to for example the battle of Dunkirk or the Visigoth offensive) but most of what he says is really incongruous, that it, there's no composition, it's more like senseless rambling. wazzupwitdatdude?

during an interview conducted by ian svenonius, which mackaye willingly subjected himself to.
who's the greater fool, the fool, or the fool who shows up for the interview?
he's smart enough to assume a persona for the purpose of instigating or provoking contemporary art. or at least that's what it seems like.

He's not a fake. He merges humor and seriousness into one way of being for the character that he plays in Soft Focus on Vice. He has an unusual and gifted approach to interviewing, combining his sincere interest with a subtle farce on ideology. Yet, unlike a Colbert interview, he doesn't box out his guests. The show is about what they think.
