  • Nope - May of '96 we were already in Virginia Beach at NAS Oceana. I have a picture of me standing on the top of it by the 25th anniversary graphic on the vertical stab when we had it in Fallon Nevada in August of 1996. -Shawn Englerth

  • @psusme1

If you read all of this, the video was taken in December of 1995 at Miramar so not real sure how May of 1996 got into this at all.....

  • I believe that is a "B", not a "D". Note the single chin pod.

  • @CRsBeem

At first glance it may look like a single 'pod' but watch the video where the Tomcat turns in for parking and you can see the twin chin....

  • I was going to add this vid to my favorites, but it's too emotional for me. Maybe it's that music. Maybe if you posted it with some Motley Crue instead.

  • The BOUNTY MOTHERFUCKING HUNTERS!!!YEEEE,my fav. squad!

  • this makes me really emotional

  • i know the f-14 is outdated but IMO the f-14 is the best plane ever!

  • @drod103164 Not true, there are certain airframes that have terrible ventilation like the F-4 and T-38's but you dont see F-15, F-16 or F-22's taxi with the canopy up. I have however seen plenty of 14's, and 18's with the canopy up.

  • @CRsBeem it is a double chin pod, also notice the absence of the ejection actuation rings on top of the ejection seats, this is definately an f-14 D, not to mention it is flown by VF-2 which was one of the squadrons that flew the D model.

  • @psusme1 Ahhh good times indeed! I was in the third and final group of Bullets to leave Miramar. Had to get that last Juanberto's carne asada burrito in:P I'll never forget the day Chris Nelson rode the moped through the barracks down in Key West or AN Bundy hooking up with the Geedunk lady's daughter. I remember "Sly" AD1 Sylvester laying down the law. Since you were in Corrosion Control, does the phrase "I was lost, but now I'm found" ring a bell?

  • @cooljess76 - this was December of 1995. I got to VF-2 in April of 1996, was in Miramar for two months, and then flew to VA Beach to help corrosion control paint the static bird for our Battle E. We were all in NAS Oceana by June of 1996 as part of the F14-D consolidation to NAS Oceana. Good times!
