This would be the tenth film in the franchise, and this would also mark Goldsmith's final score for it as well. This offered some interesting material for him to work with since this was the darkest Trek film since The Undiscovered Country. This score however wasn't met with a solid reception much like the film itself. Mostly it was criticized for not trying anything new, and most of the material being quite boring and uninteresting. Personally I always thought it was due to the fact that Goldsmith was battling cancer during the final four yeas of his life which impacted his work. It's hard to say otherwise since he was in his 70s during that time, and even with this project he needed the help of other composers like Mark McKenzie to finish the score. This opening title sequence is the weakest of all the Goldsmith's scores and unfortunately this would also be the final chapter in the Goldsmith saga in the Star Trek universe.

  • i personally love it it's so dramatic and prolific and moving sorry if you don't agree

  • I did like the score to be honest. However I clearly believe it to be the weakest of the Goldsmith's scores for Star Trek. You need to listen to the complete score if you really want to appreciate the work.

  • @SarothCyngus thats also the point when they approach the bazon rift btw

  • @sirfighterace If you notice, the Klingons kept hitting the engine ports and nacelles, which I guess would screw over the power systems. And in the show, a coolant leak lead to the destruction of the D in one of the alternate timeline eps, so there was some nice continuity. It was sad to see the D go like that though.

Perhaps Guinan went to Earth on holiday in Time's Arrow, then left back to her homeworld in time for the Borg attack? It keeps her continuity.

  • She's a scimitar.

  • @OsanBlackCat5RS

Oh no no.... this political bullshit, you know, was very important (see Drumhead, Measure of Man).

  • @sirfighterace

Don't forget, that Enterprise-D felt victim of age-old ST Universe trick. Klingons knew shield configuration parameters, due to tapping to Geordi's visor. Though sad and unfavourable resolution (I loved D), it's reasonable.

Anyway, I think that the really worst ST with TNG cast was Insurrection...rehash of one of the episodes, and poor one at that.

  • @mogh07 Generations was the worst. They killed Kirk (a big no-no), killed the most well known enterprise (pretty debatable) with a few well placed torpedoes (complete and total BS, that ship was supposed to be a freaking battleship, and like 3 torpedoes fucked it over) and screwed up guinan's continuity, because she was on earth BEFORE her people were destroyed by the borg (Ep. arrow of time), so how could she be on a cargo ship heading to earth hundreds of years AFTER that episode takes place?

  • @jamesschader The movie wasnt bad at all, But them killing off data really pissed me off. It moved the movie from an A- to a B- to me.

  • Data dying... They so should have fixed that. But even so it was fantastic.

  • I like Picards words in the end. They where going to EXPLORE. Im so tired of the political BS that ST has been putting us through.

  • This was always a trippy theme.
