Singers: The Critters
*

[From Wikipedia]

"Younger Girl" is a song written by John Sebastian and originally recorded by his band, The Lovin' Spoonful, for their 1965 debut album Do You Believe in Magic. American pop group, The Critters, covered the song and released it as a single in 1966.

The Critters were a successful American pop group with several hits in the 1960s.
The group formed in New Jersey in 1964 when singer-guitarist Don Ciccone and saxophonist Bob Podstawski joined local group the Vibratones, comprising Jim Ryan (lead guitar), Ken Gorka (bass), Jack Decker (drums), and Chris Darway (keyboards). They named themselves The Critters in emulation of similar band names like The Animals.
They signed with Kapp Records, and, in 1964, picked John Sebastian's song "Younger Girl" for their first release. However, because Ciccone, Ryan and Podstawski were then all accepted at Villanova University, the record was not completed until late 1965. "Younger Girl" became a minor pop hit in early 1966, and reached #38 in the UK Singles Chart in July that year.

  • john sebebatian wrote it for the loving spoonful

  • @bobmon54 Don later joined the 4 Seasons, but I have no information he was ever in Frigid Pink

  • Was Don Ciccone a member of Frigid Pink?

  • that COLD water is still beautiful, but still COLD!.....even on July 4th!.......

  • @All-American1964 (This is Joel's Post 2 of 2) I agree, there will never be another run of music like the 1960's. Now, the question WHY? I'm almost 57...10 yrs. older than you. During the 60's in the U.S and Britain, people tossed off their societal blinders and flew off in their own directions like never before. Couple that will all the drugs that propelled musicians in these directions, and the recordings of the day captured this explosion. Record companies back then gave artists more leeway.

  • @AllAmerican1964 (Joel's Post #1 of 2) Well then, since you're of one generation but yearning to be part of a generation before you, you'd proudly and properly be known as a "throwback". It's interesting here in YouTube, a lot of kids that are currently in their late teens and twenties LOVE this music we're listening to from the 60's. It's amazing what they write about the music of today..how it absolutely sucks, and I'd agree. I also agree that there will never be another(See Joel's 2nd Post)

  • @disconcertedd The Critters version is poppier. The LVS version is folkier. Personally I like this version better but its originally an LVS song.

  • Another great song to share with your friends! The best version ever!

  • The Lovin' Spoonful stole the spotlight on this song. The Critters had a couple of good songs on their own. Who wrote this song? Just curious who got there first!

  • @mackb909 you are wrong....the loving spoonful did not have a bigger hit with this song...as a matter of fact their version did not even make the hot 100 at all! The critters version made #38 on the u.k. charts....
