Akhenaten (pronounced /ˌɑːkəˈnɑːtən/;[1] often also spelled Echnaton, Akhnaton, or rarely Ikhnaton; meaning Effective spirit of Aten, was known before the fifth year of his reign as Amenhotep IV (sometimes given its Greek form, Amenophis IV, and meaning Amun is Satisfied). A Pharaoh of the Eighteenth dynasty of Egypt, he ruled for 17 years and died in 1336 BC or 1334 BC. He is especially noted for abandoning traditional Egyptian polytheism and introducing worship centered on the Aten which is sometimes described as monotheistic, but henotheism would be a more accurate description, since he ranked the Aten above other gods but did not deny their existence. Indeed, an early inscription likens them to stars as compared with the sun, and later official language avoids calling the Aten a god, as if to create for the solar deity a status above mere gods.Akhenaten tried to bring about a departure from traditional religion that in the end would not be accepted. After his death, traditional religious practice was gradually restored, and when some dozen years later rulers without clear rights of succession from the Eighteenth Dynasty founded a new dynasty, they discredited Akhenaten and his immediate successors, referring to Akhenaten himself as 'the enemy' in archival records.[5] He was all but lost from history until the discovery, in the nineteenth century, of Amarna, the site of Akhetaten, the city he built for the Aten. Early excavations at Amarna by Flinders Petrie sparked interest in the enigmatic pharaoh which increased with the discovery in the Valley of the Kings, at Luxor, of the tomb of King Tutankhamun, who may have been his son. Akhenaten remains an interesting figure, as does his Queen, Nefertiti. Their modern interest comes partly from his connection with Tutankhamun, partly from the unique style and high quality of the pictorial arts he patronized, and partly from ongoing interest in--and, all too often, less than verifiable claims about--the religion he attempted to establish.

  • Akhenaten was a great pharaoh he was just so misunderstood and he has been branded a heretic for no real reason other than political/religious bigotry.

  • @MartinLuther105 AKhenaten was spiritual, he introduced the symbol of the sun to raise the level of human consiousness.

  • @Motormagier Modern scientist have never been on a level of thought as the ancient egyptians so everything you have learned from them is false. Any scientist or human shouldn't be trusted when they make certain statements about the egyptians because they really don't know and their history and culture has been distorted by the ignorance.

With the same ignorance YOU think Akenaten was evil this same person inspired some of the greatest human of human kind

  • Martin Luther105, Amenhotep IV tried FORBID religious FREEDOM & such human rights in Egypt. Tried with VIOLENCE to close ~ 2000 deities temples. Alike lie himself into a flat sun disk god Aton.

Forcing his ILLUSIONS & LIES & with that himself, for god(pharao).

One can understand, why people in his time upset, he contra their religious freedom. But one can also understand, that he not wanted the old superstitions topic around 2000 deities. Maybe an art of politics is perceive many perspectives.

  • MartinLuther105: I wonder, what's more relevant: RELIGIOUS FREEDOM (he contra) or REALISM tried FORCED. But with ERRORS. (Ra, Re, Aton, FLAT sun DISK supposed fly around Earth, instead Earth around sun, while alike lie oneself into a Flat sun DISK god, godson, god descendant, god king, tricks Semitic copied, etc.) If RELIGIOUS FREEDOM as HUMAN RIGHT or REALISM more relevant:

    I'm NOT sure.

Maybe INDIVIDUALISM and FREEDOM of OPINION is, that individuals can have DIFFERING opinions on it.

  • My hieroglyph animals looked so bad, I doubted he understood much about technology in our age. Where lots I not understand so well. & Had problems how link through around 3350 years. Without the other magician, I usually doubted, most of the time, he gets at all, what I try send. I was near surprised, the god of Christians & Islam not knew them. Nor Jehshuvah "Jesus", nor Mohammed, as all that NOT existed in his time. So much Semitic, Christians & Islam lied to Germanic Religion. Interesting.

  • 11: I tried explain to Amenhotep IV about the sun. Found a REAL INTEREST in it. It's REAL. Instead of lots of other superstitions he tried to get rid of in his age. I wondered, when I drew a skeleton, to hint he in my age long dead, I come after him, then stopped most quarrels (exept when he tried insist Earth flies around sun and not the other way around, as I tried point out as Germanic religion autist to their "god"pharao) if that skeleton made him awre more, no Osiris, no Isis, no Anubis...

  • 10: I tried hint, because of his flat sun disk god lies, warped by semitic, we had maybe the biggest mass murder in Europe on Homo Sapiens of maybe all European religions, many people dead. When semitic tried trans their convertites steal every land in Europe & on Earth. To lie themselves into the flat sun disk god Aton, called Jehovah, called Allah. So many people of our Germanic religion dead, killed, because they simply not believe into a flat sun disk. And they were right, but murdered.

  • 9: The pharao seemed not guess, the double-mess supposed to be double-lion, supposed to be double-LL for sateLLite. Echnaton IV seemed not get, what is that? I as autist: Cape Caneveral might bring with rockets satellites up? Amenhotep IV seemed not to understand technology 3350 years after his death. What Christians in Vatican do, did they never explain their god Amenhotep IV: Cape Caneveral? As autist I wondered what they do in Vatican and Churches: Just talk illusions to illusions?

  • 8: He tried insist, sun flies around Earth. I no, Earth flies around sun. You later a dead skeleton (I believe, maybe he got, there NO osiris, NO Isis, no such superstition real.)

Then satellite is made. I struggled with the animal hieroglyphs, drawing handicapped, and managed vastly mutated looking "birds". And something, he seemed at a loss, and what is that ??? For double L in "SateLLite" a double lion, so badly drawn, it just looks like after Tshernobyl gene-accident a truck drove over it
