Okay, a common misnomer about nuclear powerplants is that they can explode. In reality, this cannot happen. In order for plutonium to be able to explode like an atomic bomb, it must be enrich by 70%. The plutonium in the nuclear fuel used in a nuclear powerplant is only enriched by 30%. This means that a nuclear plant CANNOT EXPLODE! It can only leak radiation! To bette4r understand this, read a good book on nuclear energy at your library or go to the US Department of Energy website.

Well if you want to get picky you might point out that very few reactors use plutonium fuel, which is considered experimental as a way of using materials from decommissioned warheads.

It's true that nothing can make a reactor explode like a nuclear bomb, but that doesn't make me want to live next to one during an accident.

In the immortal words of Jib-Jab's version of John Kerry: "You can't say 'nuclear'; that really scares me. Sometimes a brain can come in quite handy."
