@cholelee09 he wasn't good enough for her. he never wanted to do anything she wanted to do or would sulk when he did, never told her the truth about anything and routinely abandoned her. he never treated her the way she deserved to be treated and he expected her to just wait around forever for him. she deserved a lot more than what jess gave her

I don't think Jess treated her like dirt at all,I think he just had communication problems and didn't really know how to deal with the kind of realationship he was in with Rory.

i'm so pathethic because i actually cried when he calls her in the last episode of season 3.. I really wanted them as a couple, but I also think that Rory deserves better and that Jess did treat her like dirt. So when he returned in the later seasons I got so disappointed that it didn't happen

I think Jess just starting feeling like he wasn't good enough for Rory-I mean, she was going to Yale and he couldn't even finish high school. He was too embarassed and he didn't want her to know he failed, so he just ran. I also think he didn't think she really loved him,and that hurt him b/c he thought she was still in love with Dean. I think maybe if she had told him she loved him sooner he might've stayed.

I so didn't see that coming... I thought it was just another Jess/Rory moment the first time I saw the episode. And when I saw Jess' huge bag... that just broke my heart. After telling Rory "I'll call you", we discover he's leaving :( I loved them together.

i agree both with DAINDANCE14 and WUSHUUGIRL! he felt stupid and he didnt know that rory actually loved him or not but i think that jess was feeling that rory is holding for dean i think that is why he lefted and ddint want to tell her that i failed and have to repeat grade 12

Jess left because he wanted to find himself, but he didn't really know how it feels like to commit to someone. He wanted to know his father more also, but he didn't think about the most important person that loves him-Rory, and he lost her.
i think the reason Jess left is because he felt like he had been a failure as a boyfriend and couldn't handle disappointing rory.... because when he comes back later he has really changed is life around and seems to want rory to know that... just my opinion.

i agree with Danidance14 ...he just didnt want to disappoint rory but at the same time din know how to handle the situation so he escaped....later after becoming somethng he comes back to her but then rory had moved on...i feel sad...they were meant for each other
