The domestic sheep shown in this video live at Barcroft Station at 12,470' and are part of a research project studying the effects of altitude on animal physiology. The University of California operates three facilities on White Mountain, including the hut on the summit. While hiking up this peak I was fortunate enough to see a total of 25 bighorn sheep, many of which appear in this video. Also making a special guest appearance are a couple of the dozens of marmots I saw along the way. White Mountain Peak (14,256') is the third highest peak in California and is considered the highest desert peak in North America. The peak is located near Bishop, California, between Owens Valley on the west and Fish Lake Valley, Nevada, on the east.

  • @PIKAMONjake Climbing White Mtn was a goal I set a year ago when I was too injured to do any real hikes. Seeing the Bighorn Sheep was like frosting on the cake, so to speak.

  • @faffytunes Mountain goats and bighorn sheep are as different as domestic sheep and domestic goats. In fact, the related or suggested videos that appear next to this video (at least as seen from my geographic location) includes some of mountain goats and of bighorn sheep. One called "Wild Games! King of the Hill..." is the fifth video on the list and shows mtn goats and the one under it shows big horn sheep. Does the list you see match what I just described?

  • Nice tune

Those long horn sheep are they similar to mountain goats

  • @bowlingballout Thanks! Seeing as I hiked fifteen miles in the process of making this video, you could say I worked pretty hard on this little project. Of course, I would have done the hike anyways, but that's not the point! LOL

  • Gotta love your style and abilities.
