I think what happened was that he accidently shot his brother. His brother was playing with the gun, and Ricky tried to take it away, and it went off. I think he was then just afraid of violence in general, but realized he had no choice but to fight the bully once he saw that there was no way out.

@theborder1 A fight between two people who lack any kind of real training in combat sports or the likes usually go like this. A lot of the time people are so angry and focused on hurting the other guy that there's no real technique or strategy to it.
