One of Sifu's students is training for UFC so here Sifu shared with me a technique that can be seen in Hua Quan's "Pear Flower Sleeve Dance" and Jiang Style Bagua's "Li Yu Plays with the Cicada" from palm eight of the continuous form.

  • learning a technique and apply it in a real situation are totaly two different things. I did submission grappling and have been practising traditional martial arts. the principles shown here can be applied but the techniques are not 100% certain that they will work. Besides a fighter will probably limit the defensive techniques to probably 1-2, and it depends on how good is the attacker. Presice timing is more important than just the technique. Good ideas require more realistic training

  • @andyzoi you're 100% right. all techniques really work, but in the heat of the moment it might not be the right technique to use or if the timing is off, you might need to use another technique. this is for all styles, and the reason bruce lee came up with the philosophy of jeet kune do. it's actually something we all use: USE WHAT WORKS!

  • more from the one s with nothing to prove.you have a good sifu, very gentle, i ve had both kinds gentle and not, and i always felt i learned more from the one s with nothing to prove.

  • @MrWayne1701 my sifu and i were talking about that same thing the other day! thanks for the positive comment

  • The first defense was actually my favorite shoot defense back in wrestling ... I only suggest that this should be combined with a sprawl to gain more momentum, and ensure your legs are clear. Otherwise a quick shoot will still get the legs.

  • @ohsteeev wow thanks for that advice!

  • There is a very similar movement in Karate Goju Ryu.

  • LOL!! My Shuai Jiao teacher did a seminar once, years ago. At that seminar, he made everyone turn off the cameras, and face them the other way, and then taught this as secret techniques to deal with MMA guys.

In my experience, they really work, so long as you don't get faked out by thier set up.

  • Very nice! There are infinite numbers of techniques and defenses just have to find out what works and prepare for the worst.

  • Remember I was here.Thai 5:46AM 10/29/2011
