@divitmusic Saw your cover,very good,I went to the Sydney EntCent in 95 then Eastern Creek the next night on acid with a good female friend and this became our song when we heard it at The Creek,now 17 years later she is now my wife and we still just love to hear this song and remember when the world was normal.

I absolutely love this song. A little three minute gem that is nothing short of incredible. I think this is one the songs that truly defines the group. An absolute classic!!

I would argue that being successful and being mainstream are very different things. Pearl Jam have always been a very successful band, but like some other great alt rockers from the early 90s that success was unprecidented. They did not cater to the mainstream media and music industry, they were successful, and thus briefly became part of the fickle maintream psyche - simply because they couldn't be ignored by it anymore. Like when Pink Floyd released Dark Side of the Moon.

I would say that if you sell 10+ million records and make the cover of Time magazine, you're mainstream, whether or not it's by choice. I agree with everything else you said though.

this is one of those tunes that gives me the goosebumps

I first saw pearl jam in 1995 and last them in 2010. They are still my favourite band after all these years. i like this song so much that I recorded myself playing it. Check my channel or search 'divit elderly woman' to have a listen n let me know what u think. I know I can never compare to Eddie but I had a go anyway!
@Letcaster
If you prefer their earliest stuff, that's fine - it's great! Pearl Jam have evolved and grown as a band over the years but they've always stayed true to their principals and shown immense passion and dedication towards their work. The very fact that Pearl Jam turned their back on grunge at a time when everyone was jumping on the bandwagon is all you need to show how far from the mainstream they are!
