I reccommend following Tormach's backlash and gib adjustment process.
As an aside, I've recently seen a fairly new Tormach PCCNC with a FANUC 0iM control and the requisite servos. The retrofitter did a great job. I've used the 0iM control and they are very easy to set up and run and very economical.
