Please enjoy Teresa's performance of "知床旅情 (Shiretoko Ryojou)", sung with a great singer 加藤登紀子 (Katou Tokiko). This is the original song composed, written, and sung by 森繁久弥 (Morishige Hisaya).

Because Teresa sings only a part of this song, I artificially added her part to the head and the tail of the whole song sung by Katou Tokiko.

Shiretoko (知床) is the nothernmost peninsular of 北海道 (Hokkaido), Japan. Ryojou (旅情) means the heart of a traveler.

I dedicate this clip to George (HKshipsForTeresaTeng, hkship/ hkship3), who is one of my most important friends in YouTube and loves Teresa and her songs from the bottom of his heart. He is introducing Teresa's invaluable records of her songs, together with detailed description and English translation of each song in polished phrases, to people in the world through YouTube.

Teresa sings only start phrases of the lyrics as follows:

知床の岬に はまなすの咲くころ
Shiretoko no misaki ni Hamanasu no sakukoro
(In the season when Hamanasu (rosa rugosa) blooms at the cape of Shiretoko,)

思い出しておくれ 俺たちのことを
Omoidashite okure oretachino kotowo ...
(Bring us to your mind ...)

In this song, hamanasu (浜茄子) is "rosa rugosa", a kind of rose, as shown in the second photograph on the screen.
Hamanasu is in bloom in May to June.

  • Thank you, Masami-san! This video really tells us much about the Northernmost-tip of Hokkaido! Man, this song is actually very familiar to me but can't figure out the title!

i love the way Teresa leisurely sang this song accompanying herself on the piano at home. Its so hauntingly beautiful. She and the song are like made for each other. It is a pity she didnt record it or it would easily surely bcome another of her greatest hit. But why oh why her record producer never saw fit for her to do it???

May I wish Japan whose people have stoically put up with the recent disasters in their country, a speedy recovery going forward.

    Dear George,

It has been a very exciting and happy news from you that you can now again MANAGE your first original channel "hkship". Many Congratulations !! (April 4, 2011).

There was a very sad calamity in Japan on March 11, 2011, just between these two comments.

    Dear Masami,

Much needs to be done, and I still hae to go back to those two channels for some "housekeeping" tasks. I truly, heartily thank you for standing by me all these days, weeks, months and years.

    Dear George,

Today (February 24, 2011) is the most memorable and happy day for us in that your two channels (hkship & hkship3) have revived TODAY after a long suspension by YouTube. Many many congratulations.

    Masami

Thank you for your very kind compliment again. I am pleased to hear that you can enjoy Teresa songs through our channels.

  • Dear Masami, many thanks for this one also. You and George(HKshipsforTeresaTeng) are wonderful. As an English speaking native Texan, I just learned about Teresa Teng in 2010 from a friend in Tokyo. I love both her Japanese and Chinese songs. I mourn her premature passing, pray her legacy spreads world wide, for time and eternity, and love everything about this matchless, precious angel. Also thank you for the word about Katou Kakiko, whom I'd never heard before. Teresa Teng forever indeed!
