Davis ended up doing her own makeup because every professional she approached recoiled at her suggestion, saying they'd never work in Hollywood again if they did to Bette Davis what Bette Davis was requesting! But it was an argument she didn't remain entirely happy to win: when she attended an early showing with Robert Aldrich, he soon heard her quietly sobbing and asking 'did I really look THAT bad...?" Jane earned back its entire production costs in less than one week of its opening.

I love 2:36-3:01 when Jane realizes that those days of being Mamma's little angel are over and gone. Her scream symbolizes her last grip of reality, when she realizes that there will be no comeback for Baby Jane. This is one of the few times I actually feel sorry for her.
