Joseph Arthur - Honey And The Moon

i have to admit that it wasn't without some embarrassment that i recorded this video last night. with joseph arthur's shows being as intimate as they are, and my respecting him as much as i do, i felt doing so was impolite, to say the least--but after hearing the first few measures of this reflavored version of 'honey and the moon' (and having already seen everyone else snapping photos every other minute for the whole evening), i was torn. the new melody he lent the piece was so hauntingly beautiful, even in those first few measures - so much so, imho, that in the end my selfishness couldn't help but win out, and i proceeded to steal a piece of the evening for myself.

...later joseph would lend 'in the sun' a new soul as well. these two songs--both sung during his encore set (i do dare call it a set) way after his TRUE set's already amazing pieces 'black lexus'*, 'slide away', 'a smile that explodes', 'sunrise doll'**, and what i believe was a reengineering of 'take me back home', were some of the many, many highlights of the evening.

If you know the original version of this song well, you probably couldn't help but hear it in your head while Joseph sings this alternate one. Isn't the mishmash of sounds that you end up "listening" to--in this odd way--amazing?

I find it unreal.

It almost associates his music with aspects of mental telepathy.

A similar program set played in a different city (but in the same tour as this show) seems to have featured "Honey in the Moon" and "In The Sun" as well - try to find his performance at Double Door 4.25.2007 in Chicago as uploaded by Youtuber "establecido". You might find it interesting.
