I have 2 Atlas Gold SD35, both MRL, I decided to replace the decoder in one, the other has a factory installed QSI. Both have the same factory installed speakers, just the decoders are swapped out.

The Atlas QSI SD35 is a 567 sound, but in the SD35 with the Soundtraxx Tsunami, I used a 645 2nd Generation (has turbo). This sound is close to the 567D and found in the MRL SD35's. The 567 from Soundtraxx is more suited for GP 7/9 etc.

Any how this video will show the difference between the 2 decoders.

The QSI has had the turbo turn down and the master volume, the high frequency noise really hurts my ears, the soundtraxx is at default volume.

  • Tsunami sounds better, QSI runs better, your pick !

  • @flanker23 Yep, That has been my experience with all the soundtraxx, they really lack in the motor control, My wish is either soundtraxx improves the motor control (might be able to fine turn it with CV's), or QSI needs to get with the sound quality.

  • The new QSI TITAN may be your answer. It sounds better than Tsunami IMHO. QSI has always had better whistles and horns, but Tsunamis have better prime mover and chuffing sounds. To me the new Titan is the way to go. Thanks for the comparison even if it isn't apples to apples.

  • That SD35 sounds a lot like my Atlas GP38-2.

  • In your estimation, which decoder is louder?I installed a Tsunami FDL-16 in a Atlas dash8-40 b and with all sound CV's adjusted to max levels(eq levels, and oval speaker),my Athearn MP15ac with MRC decoder was actually louder.
