Video showing the polarization of a dielectric at visible frequencies (where the main effect is due to the polarization of individual atoms due to the deformation of electronic clouds) resulting in a Lorentz response in the permittivity. The resonance frequency is seen, as well as the region of negative permittivity (in practice observed only if the resonance is strong enough).

Note that the animation is artistic, so the actual amplitude and phase of the electron oscillation, and the geometrical shape of the electronic cloud, are not scientifically accurate, but rather my own impression of the phenomena.

Done using Blender.
