so many things, stuff I didnt even get to in this video. cone mitearial is one thing I didnt talk about and its also key. The lighter, the better. same with everything. a paper style is best. also magnet mitearial and strength. Neo motors tend to have more then an iron one, or the factor of BL plays a part. Thats a relationship between voice coil and magnet. suspension stiffness also. if a suspension is really stiff it holds the cone back, making less sensitivity until suspension softens. Thats why your sub sounds better and gets louder one it breaks in :)

None is 'sposed to rotate or do any other non-linear motion. The spider and surround together make sure that the whole diaphragm assembly moves in a strict line to prevent the former / voice coil from touching the pole pieces.

  • Aluminium former also adsorbs a lot of energy with eddy currents in it (among with parts of the frame and pole pieces). Making the former of metallic material is an absolute fail. IMO they make the spider too stiff and heavy either. Thanx for the details on it!

  • rubber is more of sound quality then spl. but pro audio is beast

  • thanks for the video man!

Its all a bit more clear now :)

  • Simply brilliant

  • that was interesting i have 8 inch scanspeak midbass units which after 10 years or so the foam surrounds started to deteriorate which apparently happens with this material, when i got them reconed i asked the bloke doing the job why the company would use these over rubber especially considering their price and he told me it was to save money, since then ive been under the false impression that natural rubber surrounds were a better proposition not so sure now,

  • thanks for the video it was great

  • @iphonesandipads3 you mean former. but yes a aluminum former dissipates heat faster.

  • Great video mate, subscribed :)
