They all seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves here. The great thing about Davies' lyrics is that he wrote of the common man without being condescending, he knew that he was one of them, that's the reason he could write from this perspective so well

What an amazing song, and a relatively forgotten Kinks non-album single from the time of the first of five consecutrive classic LPs (if you don't count 'Percy'). Above anything, just listen to this as a piece of songwriting genius. Unconventional, defiantly English, relentlessly melodically and structurally brilliant; this composition eclipses more famous Beatles songs of the period, which is incredible in itself. Even the lyrics, read alone, are sublime and poetic.
