  • Thanks for this Steve, ive been trying to design my own binding attachment for the dremel for a while now, and this has helped alot, any chance of showing it in more detail?

    Thanks

    Jonny

  • You can find a bigger picture in the shop section of my old guitar making website. Just do a google search for "steve dickie guitars". Actually, the jig works ok, but my hand would get very tired using it. I ended up building one of those setups that puts the body in a cradle and the router rides up and down on a mount as you move the guitar body. There's a unit like it available from StewMac. I bought the plans from them 4 years ago, but they don't seem to sell them anymore.

  • how are you pre-bending the binding at the end there? i can't really see that well

  • I bend the wood binding over a hot pipe, just as I did with the sides.

  • that piece of bindings made out of wood right?

  • yes. Sycamore in this case, but maple and other woods are very common as well.

  • no pressure while gluing.....something tells me this is gonna be rather a sloppy connection

  • man i would love to just sit in your workshop and learn how to do everything, I want to build instruments so badly, but i do have a job working as a carpenter remodelling houses and things now. i'm 20 years old. basically i found out that we have been using all kinds of great woods for firewood, like cedar and maple and spruce along with various other kinds of wood like paper wood and poplar and hickory. i just want to take my hatchet, split a log, and make instruments the way i want them to be.

  • thanks steve, i couldn't see one on your site, but ive used this video to design my own, some what like the stew mac dremel router attachment, but better. i will make one in the next month or so and test it out on a new build, if all goes well it should work just as well as a binding machine, but be alot cheaper for me to make!

    thanks
