  • Gene Chandler had a helluva voice. He should be on top as one of the best soul artists alongside Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Jackie and Wilson. Gene is my absolute favorite and boy could he sing ballads. He sung some of the best soul ballads, Just Be True, What Now, God Bless Our Love, Man's Temptation, Here Comes The Tears, To Be A Lover, and songs such as these and others always pleases.

  • Yes, Curtis Mayfield composed this tune and

the Impressions are the background singers

  • @JazzyJ1318 I'm not disagreeing with what YOU saw, I'm merely telling you what I SAW . And, when I saw Gene, he sang his entire show live.

  • @williamg2552 I'm sorry that you disagree! The song that he lipsynched was "Rainbow". He stayed on stage while singing it. He walked up and down the isle when singing some of the other songs!. I love hims so much. He was the man back in the day with the top hat, the cane and the cape!!

  • @JazzyJ1318 I saw Gene last year in California. He headlined a big oldies show , and he sang live . Believe me, that man hasn't lost NOTHIN' !!!

  • The black girl behind Gene, is singing along with him, she know her music. The white kids looking lost.

  • Gene is one of the best! Some girls preferred Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, they were great, but some girls preferred Gene, I'm one of them, he could always make me swoon. He needs to have a story done on him. He is truly unsung. Is he even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, if not, that is a tragedy! The people should be fired over there for not inducting Gene Chandler.

  • I wish black singers of today would give up rap and sing like these 60's black artists. I would give anything if they would sing like this. Such class and nothing of that trashy stuff we have today.

  • One of the greatest soul-stirring voices of all times! GO GENE!

  • What a song. I have met a many beautiful girl in high school dancing to that song. That song was the bomb in the 60's and still is.

  • @blakths78211 wicked
