  • It is a bit alien to see or listen to it that way. Originally it is sung by fraternities not on a place, but down under in the cellars of the 300 year old buildings. It is celebrating the academy, the professors, it explicitly states the shortness of life and praises the beauty of the girls. The setting for a performance usually is to get madly hammered with fraternity members in the "Kneipe" (fraternity gathering), and to celebrate the Burschenherrlichkeit - as long as life allows it.
