@AntonioGuamil Yes, that's what I was saying in my first sentence. My point was, some people here in the States who don't know the history behind the beret, and see every soldier wearing it today, may not think it's such a big deal. But it was a rather big deal to the Rangers and SF at Bragg was Gen. Shinseki changed that policy in '01.

@deek77 Anyone in the US Army is issued a beret specially if your an NCO, but only the Green Berets have green berets.

Some may think what's special about them having black berets when everybody has a beret in the U.S. Army. But before 2001, only Rangers, Special Forces and Airborne units could wear a beret (Women's Army Corps in 1975 being an exception). So you basically had to be a Special Ops soldier to wear it, seems like Korea kept to that tradition. Hooah!
