Gigabyte X58A-UD5 (with Core i7 930 @stock) / Corsair TX 750 W PSU whining while viewing websites with flash.

The whine goes away if I enable Load Line Calibration but according to the BIOS help on this option it could potentially damage the CPU.

  • hi and i see you have NOISE problem i just want to know if i buy the same board will i have the same issue like you do with W7 some people dont have this issue what you think??

  • @xTYROCKx

I was using Windows 7 ( I have since returned my PC as I thought a new motherboard shouldn't make such a noise) - I don't know if this happens with all the motherboards of the same model so can't really tell if you will have the same issues but I have read many forum posts with users having similar issues with these motherboards..

  • @pcwhine yes i know but its very common problem with gigabyte boards,my ud5 does it,

thats why i said do you have windows 7? because it has a power saving profile that does the same job as c1e but without any mb noise, click control panel/system and security/power options and select balanced,it will underclock the cpu when its idle but use full speed under load and it will run the cpu cool

  • @warren304

yes the 20W extra power consumption does take into account power saving in Windows 7, without Windows 7 power saving features it was around 40-50W.

The main point however here is that a new motherboard makes noise when a normal power saving feature is enabled.

  • @pcwhine can you just confirm that it still makes the noise when using balanced power saving in windows and c1e is disabled in the bios???for me the noise stops if i disable c1e

  • @warren304

When both C1E and C3/C6/C7 State Support are disabled there is no noise.

  • Have the same issue with Gigabyte Z68-XP-UD4. However, turning energy saving features off stopped the noise. My next MB won't be Gigabyte for sure.

  • well I don't hear anything unusual, just the sound of fans

  • its your psu thats causing it,either switch to another brand psu or get rid of the gigabyte mb and go for asus,

  • @warren304

that is true but C1E is a feature I want to use (it reduces power consumption by about 20W and keeps CPU cooler) so I don't see why I should disable it, a new motherboard should make no noise when using the default bios settings no matter what..
