El Shadday has been variously translated in the Hebrew Bible, usually as God Almighty in the Pre-Mosaic times. Thanks to recent archaeological inscriptions discovered, we now learn that Shadday was one of the Mother Goddesses involved in the Hebrew Council of the Gods.

  • Interesting new series BYP. I'd like to learn more about the Ugaritic connections to Judaism and the Hebrew Bible. Interestingly, according to Blue Letter Bible, the word šaddai/šaddāi comes from the verb šāḏaḏ, which refers to destruction, ruination, etc.

  • Heh..... yes, the Ugaritic is what I need to also share some of. I will see what I can come up with.

  • nice work

  • Thanks...... it's sure interesting to do.

  • Excellent research BYP!!! Now I have to hit the books again! Amazing.

  • Heh..... the one complaint I have heard a lot of is it is expensive watching these vids because I share so many books and their ideas and folks want them. This is, I believe, a rathegood thing. If I can get more people into books and off t.v., I will consider it a raving success. What a conspiracy eh? lol........

U said "plausible explanations" On what grounds are they plausible?

As "professing" Christians, we substantiate our doctrine and beliefs from the Bible.

The facts I present are that you have a zero case for your fantasy of a mother goddess from the Bible. If you do, then you show me the verses, not some twisted "textual snippets".

U also said I am "getting angry" and I am "very arrogant". Why? Just because I "earnestly contend for the faith ONCE delivered to the saints"?

  • @RPM11111 You see, you have a dog in the fight. Be that as it may, we were discussing the possible etymology of the title.

What I do look down upon is the conflation of personal belief masquerading as informed scholarship.

What I do love is people showing their colors by ignominiously parading a viewpoint against the stream of other plausible explanations, and then getting angry about it. As if you have the key to the bible. Very arrogant.

Now, what facts did you present? textual snippets?

  • @RPM11111 YHWH is also frequently coupled with his Asherah, in the texts that are generally viewed as the oldest. It is true that the bible offers very different conceptions about things, due in large to the centuries in which it was compiled, and the viewpoints of the authors reflecting different historical circumstances.

  • @CadaverSplatter said "I love when people don't know what they're talking about"

Clearly, ur not a Christian then. Just one who like to mock and look down on others who have less "knowledge".

GOD said "My people are destroyed for lack of understanding." HE was clearly concerned, not "loving it". You clearly have a different spirit.

You can make up your own reality if you like. Don't let me confuse you with any facts.

Please show me one Bible verse that backs up the nonsense in this video.

  • @RPM11111 AH, I love when people don't know what they're talking about. Kudos to you for not bothering with the scholarship of you're own Bible! Good for you.

  • @SubZero7th While ShDD does refer to ruination and decomposition in the Ugaritic Literature, ShD means both "Lady" (Shadi would have been in the the genitive sense, so literally 'Lady of...') and it also means "Field" referring to farmland or fertile soil. The homonym is explained when we understand a word view where the earth that is impregnated by the storm gods. The woman is like the field, and so ShD in the context of a woman would mean a fertile woman.

  • very beautiful

  • Herry Alusky?

  • what is the name of the book that tell about El Shadday?

  • Save your money. While you're at it - get yourself saved.

2 Corinthians 11:3-4 "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."
