Time elapse of the USS Missouri being moved into dry dock at the end of 2009 for major repairs. Shot by Brian Takemura, Scott Morifuji and Scott Nishi, edited by Scott Nishi.
P2 The practical political cost though in re-investing in these ships is a double edge sword - the mystique of weapons like the Iowa & B52 which still "cut the mustard" but are also considered outwardly relics of the 20th century is worrying for the enemy & for politicians if these ships are hit. Although I'd like to see them in dry dock as a tribute to US engineering in the future - while they are still a potential asset, they should be gutted & given a modern re-fit it might give USMC a edge.
P1 The USMC are constantly calling for the Iowa class (according to military news websites) to be put back into a re-fit program with modern weapons. I don't know if this debate is going to be concluded but obviously a re-fited iowa class would be cost effective - I have heard about the same sum as a Zumwalt destroyer but would provide much more immediate fire power - particularly as West has not got revenge on Saudi or Pakistan for 9/11 & Iran & sometimes Israel are anti-western.
@HonAdvVids
Sorry for so many comments but if you know about any official plans to re-commision these ships for active serve please let me know.
All the best
