Although I do not hold strong views on whether or not a republican or monarchical form of government are universally best, one thing is clear. People who I know in the U.K. who had the pleasure of being presented to a "minor" royal such as Princess Alexandra, the queens cousin, remember this for the rest of their lives, and remember how pleased the Princess was to have met them. The Queen Mum, although indulgent and indulged to, worked hard and brought great joy to her peoples.
