There was so much commotion caused with two of my videos that I thought I'd dedicate a few to setting the record straight. Sit back, and let's talk about the Philosophy of Science.

  • What about Logic? I always hear people, including those who call themselves "rational scientists", hiding their political biases behind logic.

  • @canaan1967

    hiding?

  • I object to the last statement, "even then, even then, it's just our best guess". It's our best model or best understanding, but definitely not our best GUESS.

  • guess. x)

  • wat is the song that is played in this video

  • The intro song is from Offspring, and the song behind my first few lines is by a group called "Postmen" I think. And the one during "metaphysics" is David Grey "Babylon"

  • Why is everybody giving DarwinsGarden thumbs down? He makes a good point, part of the reason I'm trying to take higher level math to accompany my studies philosophy. He may be a bit...'assertive,' but I'm not going to say "Science is just applied philosophy" without backing it up. If you disagree with his statement, debate him or be quiet and listen.

  • yes! thank you. i am a physicist, but don't believe in "laws of nature". nature can do whatever it wants. i hope to start making videos. i want to try to get philosophers and scientists together and talking...because that's what needs to be done.

  • I don't think they're assumptions but yeah. Good stuff.

  • Natural Philosophy FTW!

  • @rotate85 No he's right it is just our best guess. Gravity could be a our best guess, evolution is our best guess. We rest all of our scientific knowledge off of inductive logic that is empirically based.

  • Naturally occurring consciousness evolves happening in the now of time!Positivity energizes; negativity destroy Ur true meaning of Ur own life!:(! Namaste~Friends;~))

  • @TheKenTerry science informs our decisions. one might say philosophy debates how to make decisions. decision-making though is not that hard of a process - we just like to talk about it a lot. that's philosophy, a lot of chat and raising questions (some/most are pointless or aimless). it is exercise for the mind! after all, 'natural philosophy' became science - since the enlightenment age, science is on a different level than philosophy. there is an incomprehensible difference in utility!

  • @sinprelic

I disagree. While to the common man philosophy is "jibba jabba" I find it to be much more. Philosophy helps mankind with morals and an all around good standard of living. While most people like to say science is in stone, one should realize science has and always will be wrong. I'm not saying that as a bad thing, because at least it admits fault. I'm just saying science isn't the only thing we need.

  • richard feynmann was right i think when he said that this philosophy jibba jabba is not even comparable to contemporary science. philosophy is indeed aimless jibba jabba, and its point is to argue argumentation for the sake of itself. useful, but then again, not so useful. in fact, philosophy is worth taking (one course in college) but majoring in it... that would be a waste of time. science has utility, philosophy is just wankering around intellectually. hardly gets shit done, you know.

  • @MpowerdAPE whys that? I enjoy philosophy

  • But, Jon, Science NEVER proves anything. We have theories supported by experiment and observation - or not supported. Mathematics proves relationships - science never does.

Also, I don’t believe there is a pathway from a theory to a law. Not that scientists don’t misuse the word – like Newton’s Law Of Gravity. There is no such thing as the Theory Of Gravity. There IS a theory that explains gravity – let’s call it Newton’s Theory of Mutual Attraction. But I guess I am splitting hairs

  • Question: Does the consistency of the light from Galaxies over billions of years not attest to the long term consistency of the natural laws?
