I saw a theist win an argument with an atheist today. The atheist had actually backed himself into a strawman by insisting that the theist was taking the bible history literally.

The theist looked him dead in the eye and said, "Why would I do that? The bible isn't a history book. It's a philosophical dramatization."

...

Argument over. I have to give the points where they're due.

@zEropoint68 That's a good example of know the type of theist you're debating before making any arguments about what you think they believe. If you're not arguing a young earth creationist, chances are they don't take the bible as literal history. A moderate christian and a fundie are like night and day in the way they view the bible. The differences can be so vast, it's sometimes difficult to believe it is the same religion.
