On today's CapeCast: See spooky video of the odd neighborhood around the former North Truro Air Force Station, including an abandoned village and a helipad in the woods!
I was stationed there back in the late 70s as a power production specialist. The buildings seen on camera are base housing for families. I was 18 years old and single so I lived in the barracks also pictured.
It was a great assignment. My only regret was arriving in April of 78’ and thus missing out on the Great Blizzard of ‘78’ which everyone was still talking about. while everyone was experiencing nature at her most severe I was stationed at Sheppard Air Force base, Wichita Falls, TX
I was there walking around by myself and taking photos in March of 09. I kept having the strange sensation that people should be coming and going. It was odd, creepy, and really, really cool!
Stationed there 1983-1989....functions of the site was transferred to the FAA in 1985
I was the last military member to leave. The site worked very well with the neighboring communities. It's a shame that nothing has been done with the facilities. A great assignment!!
Stationed at this beautifull resort back in 1969-1970. Actually back then it held alot of adventure. Fantastic beach, good NCO club (Bar) and a pretty good soft-ball team, we traveled NY, etc. Of course some guys hated it ...stayed in the barracks all the time and complained, That's why the guys in the know never mentioned the nude beach just to the south of the base, ,,It's tuff serving your country !..don leavitt..Chatham & Vegas.
